Our Story
Dr. Robert J. Boss M.D. began practicing medicine in Boardman, Oregon providing health care to all residents in 1985. During much of that time, he owned and operated a private practice, but he also made time to work in both Good Shepherd and St. Anthony’s emergency rooms as well as the Hermiston Urgent Care. From 2005 to 2012 Dr. Boss served as the Medical Director for Columbia River Community Health Services in Boardman, along with supervising four physician assistants, overseeing several ambulance crews and two fire department crews in the area.
In 2004, Dr. Boss began considering his retirement. One of his major concerns was for the future of the clinic and its patients. His practice was the only one in town and he did not want to leave the community without medical services. Thus, Dr. Boss and the community looked for a solution. An application was submitted for a 330 Migrant/Community Health Care grant. In 2005 his vision became a reality and Columbia River Community Health Services was established. Later on, our name was changed to Columbia River Health. Without Dr. Boss’ contributions to the medical community, Boardman would not be in the fortunate position that it is today.
Today, Columbia River Health serves more than 3000 patients, covering the areas of Boardman, Irrigon, Ione, Arlington, Umatilla and Hermiston.
