Patients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much medical care is expected to cost.
Under the No Surprises Act, uninsured and self-pay patients have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining expected costs for medical items and services.
A Good Faith Estimate may include the expected cost of an office visit, medical tests, procedures, supplies, prescription drugs, equipment, or other services related to your care.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate when you schedule a non-emergency health care service or item, or upon request before you schedule a service or item.
If you schedule a service at least 3 business days in advance, we will provide a written estimate no later than 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule at least 10 business days in advance, we will provide it no later than 3 business days after scheduling. You may also request an estimate before scheduling, and we will provide it in writing within 3 business days of your request.
The Good Faith Estimate is only an estimate. Actual charges may be different if your condition changes, additional services are needed, or your provider recommends care that was not known when the estimate was created.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate from a provider or facility, you may have the right to dispute the bill through the federal Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution process. Keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate and any bills you receive.
